Nice post Will. Just wondering why the other plantations are able to use only 35% of their harvest whereas Robaina uses 85%? That’s a fairly large gap – is it due to the ways the cultivation is done or the ways the leaves are treated post harvest?

Not sure about that but it is generally not recommended to mix energy drinks and alcohol since caffeine keeps you alert and stimulated due to which you may drink more alcohol without feeling the effect.

Thanks for your comment Professor Iansiti. From what I know, initially they used several independent wagon jobbers to get the product across to the market post which they switched to more established distributors.

Yes Rahkeem the small bottle will surely keep production and distribution costs down – that is a big secondary advantage for them. However, I still believe the main reason they chose the small bottle was to not compete with drinks such as coke and red bull for shelf space. The small size allowed them to be placed at check out counters and they are now at the checkout counter of every Walmart lane which is one of the hardest spaces to get.

Thanks to Instacart I have not been to a grocery story in the last 4 months since I started using the app – It has worked seamlessly for me so far. A useful feature that saves time in their operations: a prompt you receive (just before placing the order) to pick similar alternate items in case your chosen items are unavailable. This way the “shopper” is not obliged to call / message the “user” to confirm purchase for alternate items hence saving time and making the process more streamline.

VICE news is amazing! Other than the greats points you mentioned, for me their informal interviews, mostly unedited film, outspoken and brash journalists, and unbiased opinions are what differentiate them from other media houses. Also by focusing on long form media rather than just short form, VICE is more educational and provides deeper understanding of the stories they cover.
