Though I use Venmo all the time, I know a lot of people who are hesitant to sign up for it because they are concerned about online privacy. I wonder how Venmo is reassuring customers that their credit card and bank account information is safe with them, and encouraging people to use Venmo as a normal method of payment.

One of the reasons I paid the membership fee to become a partial owner of the REI Co-op is their superior customer service. They truly believe in keeping their customers for life through quality products and great customer service, and I don’t shop anywhere else for outdoors equipment. Last month I exchanged some hiking shoes that didn’t fit right even after wearing them for multiple hikes; REI just wanted me to have the most comfortable shoes I could! By having the right policies in place, REI does a great job matching their operating model to their business model.

I was really impressed reading how this restaurant uses data to decrease waste and prepare the right foods at the right time. When I worked with Starbucks, I was surprised that our waste rate for food was about 50%! It can be very challenging to prepare/thaw the right foods for the day to decrease waste at the end of the day, and the way Akindo Sushi can better predict consumption is a huge expense saver! I wonder how this translates to their operations more upstream; I’m assuming they use this data to order sushi more just-in-time and in more accurate quantities.

Great pick Jessica! I spent half my childhood in a Speedo suit and I love the brand! I think a mark of their success is the fact that Speedo has become synonymous with racing suits in general. It will be interesting to see how Speedo grows its fashion business as it seeks to reach more recreational swimmers with supporting its competitive businesses like racing, wearable technology, and accessories (and how they support their R&D efforts to achieve these goals).
