Really interesting article and fascinating topic. Do you know how Swissair went about determining which airlines to invest in? It seems like it was a wild mix, so to echo some other comments, its not clear to me how they thought these were going to be in alignment. Could they have been thinking these would be the future winners and just wanted to bet on success? Also, given the current EU rules how do you see the prospects for SWISS (which I love, by the way, since they give you chocolate)? Could they JV with any other major EU carriers?
Loved this post Mags. This company is fascinating (and now I kinda want to get myself analyzed…). Thinking through their business plan its clear that their data has an incredible amount of monetary value as well as societal value. How would you say their doing in balancing the two? What is their mission? Also, you mentioned working with foundations to help analyze your background. Is there any outreach towards physicians to get them to recommend this service to patients? I would love to get the testing done and then be able to sit with my doctor and really dig into it. Is that something they are working on?
Great post! I am really interested in the growth of Ryanair, particularly as its offering evolves compared with other carriers. I’m curious, given that we do see Ryan moving away from the rock bottom no frills experience towards a little more tiered offering with simple perks, do you think they will alter their model further? Also, how do you see the legacy carriers altering their product to take on the challenge of Ryanair? It seems like Ryanair’s fuel policy may be a bit harsh but perhaps there is room for improvement there?
I thought this was a great post. Really fascinating look at finding profit and a market with such a precise focus. One thing I’m curious about your take on is the challenge of art vs. performance. Do you think that the people purchasing these cars truly appreciate them for the art (especially since so much of the car is outsourced) or is the pricing and marketplace propped up by “experts” who extoll the virtues of this company over others? How informed would you say their customers are?
