Kevin, Fascinating post. Like Carolyn, I had not hear about we chat until we started working with our global partner for the Chengdu project. Its definitely very prominent in the Chinese market. I wonder if Facebook’s buying of What’s App was inspired by them!

Interesting, they definitely know how to create a “magical” environment. At the same time, I also wonder why the park they opened in Paris was not nearly as successful as the ones in the US. Perhaps some of this is American culture specific and not transferable to other cultures? or perhaps it was something specific about the site in France that was not in a convenient location?

Its amazing that vertical integration and efficient utilization of resources could lead to such a strong leadership position in the market (90% share). I did not know that the antitrust legislation was introduced because of SO. Very interesting post!

I think there are some parallels with the USPS as well. Very interesting post, I did not know that there was legislation that forces them to continue routes that are not profitable. Definitely not easy to turnaround a company when you need cooperation from the US congrress!
