Great post!!
I wonder what type of regulations they have to face when offering these solution to doctors. and whether regulations can stop them from growing.

Great post! I agree that Google uses data analysis in every aspect of its business. Another field where Google uses its data analysis capabilities is in Google maps. Their prediction algorithm of traffic and how much time it would take a driver to get from one place to another based on combination of past traffic data and real time updates.

On November 22, 2015, Sabina commented on Palantir – Masters of Big Data :

Allen, great post!
I read that Palantir partners with law enforcement agencies to help to fight crime. They equip officers and agencies with tools that help to analyze intelligence, produce reports on crime and provide data for investigations. Some speculate that one of Palantir’s projects is to help governments to predict terror attacks. Governments use companies like Palantir to help them to analyze what is the risk of terror attack and how it is changing based on system that is tracking events that already happened. I’m not sure how much of it is true, because Palantir was very secretive about its product.

Great post!!
Waze was able to build active community of users through the gamification, as you mentioned, and also by community managers. When Waze enters a new city, it creates a huge marketing campaign and organizes conferences where it invites users to take an active part of building the maps.
Big part of the map building happens through Waze’s map editor, and not through the drivers’ instant reports. The real question is whether the users who edit the maps, would be incentivized to do so for Google maps.

Great points Allen!
I also find the SO community culture more confrontational than other crowd sourced communities. May be, this is a disadvantage for other knowledge domains of Stack Exchange (SE), because the growth and the size of these domains is much smaller compared to SO’s.

On November 1, 2015, Sabina commented on StackOverflow : Q&A site for programmers :

Thank you for the reply Austin! I agree, though I raised concerns, SO’s brand is very strong and their community is active, therefore they should not worry too much.

Emilie, great post! I agree that Flatiron is disrupting the healthcare industry with its technology.I’m curios to know what were the regulations they had to face, and if there is a risk that in the future they might not be able to operate because of regulations/licences/privacy issues.

On October 4, 2015, Sabina commented on Waze: Using Network Effects to Improve Your GPS System :

CC24, great post! I agree that Waze platform is innovative and presents a different kind of GPS navigation system. However I don’t think that Google needs Waze technology for its Google Car project. The data that Waze can provide to Google Car, also can be collected from Google maps and other Google services. Therefore, I don’t think that acquiring Waze was to develop the technology scope. As you mentioned, I think partially it was a defensive action and partially Google wanted to acquire an active community of users. Something that they did not succeed to build with Google+.

Schwas, thank you for your comment! I agree that it is not clear how Dropbox can build a sustainable strategy and protect itself from the competitors. One point that I was surprised about is that a superior product is not enough to create a strong network effect and a sustainable revenue stream.

Rob, great comment! I agree with you that the customers reviews played an integral role in Amazon’s strategy. However, I don’t think Amazon can not be a place for search and discovery. Sometimes users not sure what they are looking for to buy, and with Amazon’s suggestions algorithm helps those users to find the right product. They still use Google for experts opinions, but I think some of the discovery happens on Amazon too.

Oded, thank you for your comment! I agree, Amazon is a huge threat for Dropbox. Though Dropbox product might be superior, it will be hard for them to compete with Amazon’s ecosystem.

I agree, they are a fast follower in some cases. But I’m not sure if it is a sustainable position for the long run and what would be their positioning when PCs lose to tablets. May be you are right and they will be fast enough to adapt.
