How Cyberspace is Transforming International Security

  • Cybersecurity is rewriting the international security handbook. Governments had best get up to speed with this new canon!
“Government has to balance its obligations to protect national security without compromising the ability of corporations to innovate or citizens to maintain their privacy.”
Unlike other national security issues, the expertise of cyberspace resides predominately in the private sector with companies like Microsoft, Apple, or McAfee rather than within the federal government. As the threat of cyberattacks grow, governments must begin to develop international norms for how to be a responsible actor in cyberspace. Moving forward, cybersecurity should be a priority for the private and public sector and individuals alike.
